Front Porch Christmas Decorating

Decorating Your Front Porch for Christmas

Front Porch Christmas Decorating is my favorite thing to do. Christmas Decorating brings joy to you and those you live with. It also delights your friends and neighbors. It creates an incredible vibe and that is such a wonderful way to finish out the year. Christmas front porch decorations do not have to be ostentatious and over the top. They can be simple and impactful. They do not need to take up too much space, particularly if you have a small front porch. Keep your Christmas outdoor decor simple and inviting. Choose a theme so that it all ties together.

Christmas Lighting

Holiday Trim around the doors or windows accentuates the front of the house with ease. It is a neat and welcoming front door and curb appeal item. It is not difficult to fix onto the door frame or around the window. It can be removed without leaving permanent damage. Choose a pre-lit trim or a simple poinsettia and ribbon collection to add good cheer to any porch. This is also a good solution to adding a Christmas feel without taking up too much space. A great tip for small porch decorating.

Lanterns

Buy some lanterns to hang on the edge of your porch to give some additional lighting. I purchased some battery operated lights from Ikea and put them into my lanterns. They switch on every evening for 6 hours and my batteries last 3-4 weeks at a time. I love lanterns and I actually leave them up all year. If you don’t have space to hang them on your porch you can put them to the side of your front door mat.

String Lighting

String lighting on the porch railings or overhead on the porch eaves create a magical feel. Wrap the porch support posts with lights. It is as another simple way to add a dimension without taking up too much space. Choose a color to compliment your Christmas theme or keep it simple. White lights and ribbon alternating to make a candy stripe pole feature.

Christmas Wreaths

Christmas wreaths that are well made carry the theme through your porch. They look wonderful on the front door. Lighting on the wreaths stitch the Christmas theme together. Many wreaths come pre-lit making it easy to add the sparkle to your entrance. The small wreaths that hang on the front of house windows make the decor look expensive and charming.

Net Lights

Net lights covering the nearby bushes or tree trunk add an element of fun to your Christmas decor. Often these items can be useful when you have a small front porch and you want to add joy without taking up space.

House Trim Lighting

House trim lighting that is neatly or professionally done transforms the ordinary home, into the extraordinary one. It sparks joy every night when the lights are on.

Christmas Trees

Whether you choose a real Christmas tree or an ornamental one, your porch will look merry and bright. Children and adults alike love Christmas trees. I bought a beautiful wooden one at Hobby Lobby last year and it fits in well with my rustic Christmas theme. I have a side table on my porch that it stands on and it makes me smile every day.

Christmas Themed Front Door Mat

Change out your plain front door mat with a Christmas front door mat. This adds another welcome message to those who visit. A Christmas message before you step over the thresh hold will be an added note of love.

Front Door Steps and Railings Decor

On each step add a remote operated outdoor candle either in a small lantern or just set out on the tred. That can be a great way to light the step and keep to your Christmas theme. Christmas ornaments and bows are a simple and pretty way to decorate your railings.

Christmas Outdoor Wall Decor

Find the best Christmas picture or word art that brings you joy and put that up on your wall for passers by to read. I have the words “It’s the most wonderful time of the year” on my peg board and I put that up and on the wall. Stars with music notes are impactful. Put up a framed board with sticky notes and send messages of love.

Wrapped Christmas Gifts

I love my 3 size wrapped ornamental Christmas Gifts that I stack on my porch or on my steps. Mine are rustic burlap trimmed boxes with plaid ribbon. Even small boxes wrapped in cheerful paper can be put onto the porch if it is a waterproofed or dry area.

Oversized Christmas Ornaments

Oversized Christmas Ornaments look awesome dangling from the surrounding tree branches or even on your railings or roof top over your porch. Christmas ornaments are a children’s delight.

Yard Swag

Yard ornaments and pre-lit garden ornaments are fun if you have a little garden space. Nothing says Christmas more than lighting. I am not much of a fan of garden swag, however there are many beautiful garden decorations that can add to the Christmas joy. I have seen beautifully decorated gardens over the years however I love the coziness of the front porch and a welcoming front door.

Conclusion

It does not matter how you choose to decorate your patio, porch or balcony for Christmas – as long as it makes you feel happy when you arrive home and leave – that is the most important thing. Every time it makes some passerby, neighbor, friend or family smile that makes the world a better place, even for a few short moments. Spread good cheer this Christmas. Your front porch Christmas decorating will lift everyones spirits.
